We give youth space to be themselves. We are a tight-knit community with a small camper to staff ratio. Every week we welcome 112 kids to our Traditional Camp, 16 kids to our Specialty Camps, and 14 kids to our LIT Program. All traditional camp participants are divided into 14 separate cabin groups based on age and gender. There are six male cabins and eight female cabins. Cabins have heat, electricity, showers with warm running water, and newly renovated bathrooms. Campers spend the week with their cabin groups. Female Cabins Butterflies Chipmunks Marmots Wolverines Elk Lynx Black Bears Bison Male Cabins Gray Jays Prairie Dogs Porcupines Mountain Goats Timberwolves Grizzly Bears Cabin Leaders & Staff TeamHundreds of people apply every year to work at camp and we choose the best candidates possible. We have a very strict vetting process which includes a thorough interview and at least three reference checks (academic or work-related). All staff members have a clear criminal record check with the vulnerable sector search, as well as a review of their physical and mental / emotional health from a medical doctor. Staff go through extensive training on topics such as program development, caregiving, emergency procedures, risk assessment, age-specific characteristics, behaviour management, safeguarding policies, and out-tripping skills. STAFF TEAMMeet our Amazing Staff #### Cadicasu History Cadicasu History95 years of creative thinking has made our camp the perfect combination of tradition and responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of today’s youth. What makes us unique is that people accept each other here unconditionally, for their likeness as well as their differences. Multiple generations of campers come here because they know that it is a special place where they can fully be themselves. The old Cadicasu we have known for many years continues to inspire new generations of campers and staff.Photos of the original Cadicasu site located in Bragg Creek from 1930 – 2007 where over 60,000 children went to summer camp. DATE EVENT 1929 St. Mary’s Parish in Calgary was donated land in Bragg Creek. 1930 Cadicasu opened in Bragg Creek as St. Mary’s Boys Choir Camp. 1951 Bishop Carroll turned it into a general summer camp for boys. 1952 Girls were welcomed at camp for the first time during separate weeks. 1955 The official name of the camp was changed to Camp Cadicasu. 1956 Camp Cadicasu became a registered non-profit charity. 1950s A new chapel, dining hall, swimming pool, and cabins were built. 1961 Mrs. Violini (a.k.a. “Mom”) started a 20-year relationship as the cook. 1965 Fr. Eric Nelson began an almost 50-year run as Chaplain. 1970s A co-ed program was initiated that reflected the cultural trends. 1980s Camp freshened itself up with some new buildings and upgrades. 1989 Mike Nelson embarked upon a multi-decade journey as the Director. 2006 The mess hall burned down and talk of how to continue emerged. 2007 The business association with the Calgary Catholic Diocese ended. Rock ‘n Roots, Family Camp & Day Camps were added for more program opportunities. Trick or Trail was developed as an annual fundraiser. Rebuilding CadicasuIn 2007, the construction of the new site began and the Board of Directors worked hard to fundraise and carry on the legacy that began over eighty years earlier. jk Reconciliation Statement (2023)With the discoveries of unmarked graves across multiple residential schools in Canada, Camp Cadicasu has felt compelled to further examine our relationship with the Indigenous Peoples. Cultural appropriation permeates the history of summer camps all over the continent, and we are no exception. While we have embraced Indigenous ceremonies, terms and crafts in our past, we acknowledge the unintended consequences of these actions. We have been working very hard to instil respect by moving towards reconciliation. From the beginning, the Indigenous Peoples have played a significant role in defining our camp culture. However, we recognize the line between appreciation and appropriation has been blurred with some of our traditions. Over the past ten years, we have made several changes to remove aspects of our program that reinforced stereotypes and added opportunities for education. We honour the Indigenous Peoples by teaching earth skills, caretaking the land, modelling environmental stewardship, and sharing our Land Acknowledgment. We hope to continue the healing journey as we safeguard our community as a place where all humans feel safe, loved, and welcome.× #### CAMP Traditional CampCamp Cadicasu is the best place to create life-long memories. We focus on the importance of nature-connection and building community. (Ages 7 – 14) With so much technology in our lives today, we offer a sanctuary in the forest with exciting, yet low-risk fun! We go back to the basics by exploring the woods, getting covered in mud while building primitive shelters, and teaching campers how to make their own fires. The wilderness provides a perfect place for discovery, curiosity, and adventure. Daily CampfiresHikingWater PlayOut-TripsEarth SkillsFire MakingArts & CraftsAll-Camp GamesShelter BuildingArcheryPerforming ArtsLeadership SkillsOur programs are designed to meet individual camper needs and are modified based on each cabin group. Environmental stewardship and nature awareness are the foundation of everything we do at camp. Unplug and connect with the extraordinary.Campers learn to embrace change, overcome obstacles, and build self-esteem. We guide them into discovering their strengths. Removed from modern distractions and familiar surroundings, campers build genuine connections. They leave with increased confidence, a sense of belonging, and knowing they are part of something bigger. In a stunning natural setting, we embrace the values of community and simplicity so campers can grow more comfortably in their own skin. We try to live our role as caretakers of the earth to conserve the natural environment for future generations. We guide our campers into discovering their individual paths that bring them closer to living in oneness. Egos are set aside so people can be themselves. #### Camp Food Camp FoodThe heart of our camp can found in the kitchen. It is with great pride that we are able to continue supporting camp families. Society is divided by economic, racial, geographic, religious, ethnic, and social boundaries. As a charitable organization, Camp Cadicasu strives to break down these barriers through our unique Campership Program to make camp accessible. Summer camp is a magical place and we don’t want that experience limited to certain children. Everyone should be able to have the opportunity to grow and have fun at camp. Our Board of Directors have made it their goal to always keep the camp within the reach of all the families who wish to attend. Acceptance and appreciation of all people is learned through being a part of our diverse community. The relationships and solidarity that flourish at camp are nothing short of amazing. Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions. Camp FAQWill my child be placed with the person requested during registration? Yes, if they are the same age and gender. If they meet this criteria and it’s not possible for us to honour a grouping request, we will contact you in advance. Can I register my child for more than one session? Yes. Campers can come for as many sessions as they would like. Will my child feel left out if they come on their own? No. In fact, that might just be the best way to come. It leaves them open to potentially meeting the most amazing friends of their life! Where do campers sleep? Campers in our Traditional Camp sleep in our cabins which have heat, electricity, and full bathrooms with warm running water. If campers are ages 12 + they will spent one night outdoors on their out-trip with tarps as shelter. Campers in our LIT Program sleep in platform tents outdoors. Campers in our Specialty Camps sleep in tents outdoors. LIT and Specialty Camp participants are very close and have access to our main facility (bathrooms and showers). What time is drop-off and pick-up? Drop off is between 6 – 7 pm on Sunday evenings and pick-up is between 4:30 – 5:30 pm on Friday Evenings. Our gates will remain closed as always outside of these times. Please note that LIT campers do NOT stay at camp over the weekend and must be picked up and dropped off between weeks. My child has been waitlisted. How likely is it they will get a spot? Unfortunately, we are unable to predict the likelihood they will get a spot. Sometimes several campers from the waiting list are contacted and sometimes none. It depends on a variety of different factors. Does Camp Cadicasu offer any financial assistance? Yes, Camp Cadicasu is home to the Campership Program. This application is intended to support families with campers who may not be able to send their camper(s) to camp due to financial barriers. Submit the application form and we’ll be in touch with further information to register! Applications for Summer 2025 are now closed. We appreciate your support and cooperation. It is very important to disclose any relevant medical information during the online registration process to ensure that campers are set up for success. Please notify us in advance of any changes or updates. Our staff have Standard First Aid, trip leaders have Advanced Wilderness First Aid, and we have a camp medic on-site (RN or Paramedic). Every team member completes the Respect Program prior to arriving at camp for our comprehensive staff training. If a camper needs to see a doctor, parents will be contacted and required to come and pick up their child. If there is a major medical emergency, we will call an ambulance and contact parents immediately. MedicationsAll prescription and over-the-counter medications (including herbal supplements) must be handed in upon arrival. They are securely stored in the medic cabin and distributed at the appropriate times. Everything must be in original containers with English labels. If it’s a prescription, it must be prescribed to the camper. Do not take your child off their regular medications or experiment with new medications while at camp. All prescription and over-the-counter medications (including herbal supplements) must be handed in upon arrival. They are securely stored in the medic cabin and distributed at the appropriate times. 2 Epi-Pens are Required for Campers with Allergies Inhalers are Mandatory for Campers with AsthmaWildlifeLocated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Kananaskis Provincial Park, we are situated in a living ecosystem. There are a variety of animals such as deer, coyotes, moose, and bears who share their home with us. We cannot remove these animals from around our property. Part of being at camp is learning to navigate the natural forest landscape. Every year, we participate in the Alberta Parks Facility Operator Program. They come out and teach our staff how to prevent animals encounters, as well as how to respond accordingly in the unlikely event of an encounter. Lice PolicyAll campers will have their hair checked for head lice and anyone with evidence of lice or nits will be excused from camp to return home for treatment. Please set aside a time to check your child’s head for lice prior to leaving for camp. Head lice are very common. Anyone who has hair can get it and people can have head lice even without the symptom of an itchy scalp. We recommend doing lice checks of your child’s hair a few days to a week prior to their camp starting date. This will give your family sufficient time for treatment, if needed. #### HOME Harvest & Haunt October 30 – 31 Friday 3pm – Saturday 4pm Fun for the Whole Family Pumpkin Patch | Haunted Hike | Fall Crafts | Pie Making | Cozy Campfire | and MORE! It’s often the highlight of the week and a unique experience to introduce youth to hiking, backpacking and/or camping. Most campers in traditional camp (age 12+ only), the LIT Program, Summit and Journey Specialty Camps, will participate in an out-trip. Campers learn how to set up camp using tarps and sleep under the stars. The difficulty level and proximity to camp is determined based on the group of campers involved. Out-trips may be cancelled as a result of adverse weather conditions or due to the physical abilities and / or maturity of the group of campers.   Campers should pack all the required materials, including a sleeping bag, sleeping mat or pad and large (45-60L) backpack, as listed in the Packing List. Campers are responsible for carrying their own materials, and assisting in some group gear, such as tarps or food (provided by us). Campers depart camp with their Cabin Leaders and an Out-trip Leader and are supervised at all times. In the event of an emergency, campers may return to camp under the discretion of the Out-trip Leader and/or Admin Team. #### Packing List Packing ListBelow is a list of what should come with participants.
