Summer Camp FAQ

Registrations FAQs

Yes. Camp Cadicasu is an active and accredited member of both the Alberta Camping Association and the Canadian Camping Association. This ensures that we adhere to the highest standards of camping, training, and safety possible.

Registration for summer camp opens on November 1st each year, which allows parents plenty of time to get their child(ren) signed up for the camps and activities of their choice.

By following the below ‘Register For Summer Camps 2024’ button, you will be taken to our secure CampBrain database where you will be asked to create a profile. From there, follow the prompts to register for your selected week(s), remit payment, and wait for your confirmation e-mail advising you that you’re all squared away.

*Please note that summer camp registration operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so we at Camp Cadicasu strongly encourage parents to register as soon as possible in order to secure their preferences.

During registration, there will be a dedicated space on your “Camper Information Form” where we ask if your child(ren) would like to be placed in the same cabin as anyone else. Please note that these forms are what help us form our cabin assignments, so we ask that you ensure it’s filled out properly with the first and last name(s) of any friends/relatives your child(ren) would like to be placed with.

Please note that while we do our best to accommodate cabin requests, Camp Cadicasu cannot and does not provide any guarantees.

Due to capacity, your application may be waitlisted for one or more sessions of your selected registration items. Please note that you will be advised immediately should space be made available, though we cannot predict if or when, nor guarantee that your camper will be admitted.

If you wish to secure a spot in one of our overnight camps, we strongly encourage you to register as early as possible (registration opens each year on November 1).

Camp FAQs

Overnight camp and LIT drop-off  runs at 6:00PM on the first day of your selected camp. Please note that early drop-off is not available, and we ask parents to refrain from entering the property until a Camp Cadicasu staff member has opened the gates and permitted you to do so.

Overnight camp and LIT pick-up runs at 4:00PM on the last day of your selected camp. Please note that late pick-up is not available, and we ask parents to ensure their timeliness as we cannot guarantee staff supervision past pick-up hours.

Please note that a formal Camp Cadicasu packing list will be sent to parents/guardians one (1) week in advance of your selected camp(s). This packing list will be the most up-to-date version, and may include items specific to your camper(s) week — we advise that it is read carefully.

As a brief overview of what to expect to bring, find the below list:

1 week’s worth of “camp appropriate” clothing (think items that are okay to get a little dirty!), including: t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, shorts, sweatpants, a summertime jacket, hat, shoes (at least 1 pair of closed-toed shoes suitable for walking moderate distances in forested terrain are a must), socks, pajamas, bathing suit, life jacket (if available).

sleeping, bathing & miscellaneous gear: single sheet, sleeping bag/blanket, pillow, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shower towel, creek towel, waterproof sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottle (marked with first and last name).

medication: any medication as required by the camper during the course of their selected week. All camper medication must be brought in its original, pharmacy-marked bottle, including dosage and physician name. All medications must be surrendered to the camp medic upon arrival. Medication brought in any other container than what’s been described above, or that is prescribed to a different name than your camper is registered under will be denied and not administered.

what not to bring: Camp Cadicasu does not permit handheld electronic devices, weapons of any kind (including knives/multi-tools), alcohol, non-prescription drugs, cigarettes or cash/debit and credit cards on-site. It is highly discouraged that your camper brings with them any valuables, such as watches, cameras, video game devices and/or consoles, etc. Camp Cadicasu is not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen belongings. Any unclaimed lost and found items will be donated at the end of the summer.

In overnight camp, kids and youth jump right into the fun on night one with a cabin contest, snack and campfire before bed. From there, each day includes 3 square meals, 1 snack,  an hour of quiet time, and a rotation of pre-selected activities where they will dive deep into the craft or sport of their choice. All this, plus out-tripping, camp-wide events such as a scavenger hunt, movie nights, or creek time make for an action packed week!

Medical FAQs

If your camper requires treatment or medication administration during their time at camp, we ask that you please indicate as such on their “Medical Form” during registration. This form will intake all pertinent information such as what OTC (over the counter) medications we are permitted to administer to your camper, as well as what prescriptions they may be on, in what dosage and when to administer it. These forms are then provided to our certified medics, who will be collecting your child’s medications during drop-off on the first day of your selected weeks.

Campers are not permitted to keep any medication on their person or with their belongings in their cabin for any reason, with the exception of regularly-used inhalers or epipens. The medics will then coordinate visits with your child’s cabin leader to ensure all medication is administered as directed.

When packing medication, note: All camper medication must be brought in its original, pharmacy-marked bottle, including dosage and physician name. All medications must be surrendered to the camp medic upon arrival. Medication brought in any other container than what’s been described above, or that is prescribed to a different name than your camper is registered under will be denied and not administered.

Ensure to include your child(ren)s dietary restrictions in their medical form, and our administrative team and kitchen leads will review them prior to your child(ren)s arrival to ensure we can accommodate them. In most common instances (gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, vegetarian, vegan, allergies, etc.) it is no problem. However, if your camper has complex dietary needs, our staff may contact you to discuss meal options and/or confirm what, if any, snacks ought to be brought from home to ensure no cross-contamination.

Note that Camp Cadicasu does not accommodate for preferences, or likes/dislikes under any circumstances, though will always endeavour to ensure your camper(s) leave mealtime with a full belly.

Special Needs FAQs

No. Campers with complex physical, mental, developmental, behavioural and/or emotional needs are advised to contact and register with camps in which are designed to serve those particular needs.

Staff FAQs

Member of both Camp Cadicasu’s Senior and Seasonal Staff teams each receive comprehensive training that covers everything we do throughout the course of a summer, including how to instruct all of our activities, support the physical, mental, behavioural and emotional needs of their campers, and respond amidst a prospective camp emergency, illness and/or injury.

Each member of staff is required to be certified with a minimum of: Standard First Aid Training (specialized roles such as Out-Tripping Lead, Medic and others are subject to further certification), and all employees must submit to a Criminal Record including Vulnerable Sector Check.

Our cabins are generated with a 1:4 ratio (1 leader to 4 campers), totalling 8 campers and 2 cabin leaders per group.
